Stephen A. Smith Apologizes to Teyana Taylor and Iman Shumpert Over False Divorce Claims

"Those statements were inaccurate," Smith said, adding that he has personally reached out to both Teyana and Iman to apologize. As CEO of Straight Shooter Media, he admitted his team failed to properly source the story before putting it out.

Smith also made a point of showing love to both of them. He called Iman someone he's respected for years from covering the NBA, both as a former player and as an analyst. He praised Teyana for her award-winning career and her role as a mother, and said she has always been kind to him. He also said he regrets that the segment may have made it look like Iman was publicly speaking badly about the mother of his children.

According to Smith, the goal was never to dig into the couple's personal business but to spark a bigger conversation about marriage and money. Still, he called the situation a lesson: just because something gets repeated online, or gets pinned on a famous name, doesn't make it fact.

This isn't the first time the details of Teyana and Iman's split have made headlines. The two married in 2016 and finalized their divorce in 2024. In 2025, Teyana accused Iman of leaking sealed court records from the case, which his attorney denied. Teyana was later found in willful contempt for violating the terms of their divorce and was ordered to cover $70,000 of Iman's legal fees.
