Tems Is Heading Somewhere Slower, and We're Here for It

Tems has been one of the most interesting voices in the game for a minute now, and it sounds like her next chapter is headed straight into our lane.

In a new cover interview with EE72, Tems opened up about her second album, the follow-up to 2024's Born in the Wild. Her description? More R&B. More melancholy. Smooth, mellow, a little lo-fi. She compared the whole thing to a river, and honestly, that's the kind of energy we play at 11 p.m. with the lights down low.

No title yet. No release date either. So for now, all we've got is the vibe, and the vibe sounds right.

A Different Kind of Album

Born in the Wild went wide. Eighteen tracks, soul on one song, rap on the next, J. Cole stopping through on "Free Fall." This one sounds like it's going deep instead. Some folks will miss the range. We think a focused Tems record could be something special.

How She Works

Here's the part that got us. Her No. 1 UK hit "Raindance" with Dave started as a freestyle she recorded on her phone, about 30 minutes of her just feeling it out. The team built the whole song from that one take. And she doesn't write her lyrics down on paper. She just creates.

On the flip side, "What You Need" from her 2025 EP Love Is a Kingdom sat with her for seven years before she let it go. She wrote, composed and produced almost all of that project herself, the same way she taught herself in a college dorm room when nobody else would help her make the music she heard in her head.

That's an artist who trusts her own ear. And if this next album is as quiet and grown as she's describing, it's going to fit right into the rotation.

We'll be watching for the first single. Until then, tap in and listen live at redcuprnb.com.
