Tank Lands His 12th No. 1 at Adult R&B Radio With "Yes"

Tank has been part of grown-folks radio for close to twenty years, and this week he gave himself a little more room at the top. His single "Yes" moved up from No. 2 to No. 1 on Billboard's Adult R&B Airplay chart, his 12th trip to the top of that list. That breaks the tie he'd been sharing with Charlie Wilson and makes him the male artist with the most No. 1s in the chart's history. Usher sits behind them with 10, and Bruno Mars, Maxwell and Kem each have nine. The only artist ahead of him overall is Alicia Keys, who has 14.

"Yes" leans on that soft, spoken-word warmth Floetry made famous, and it's the second song from his new album EXPERIENCE to reach No. 1, following "Control," which held the spot for two weeks back in March. The run goes all the way back to "Please Don't Go" in 2007 and runs through records like "When We," "Dirty," "Slow" with J. Valentine, and last year's "Gone" with Aaliyah. EXPERIENCE, his 11th album, came out September 25 on R&B Money/BMG, with Charlie Wilson, Kirk Franklin and Remy Ma among the guests. Tank has said he used this one to try sounds folks might not expect from him, from dance to gospel to a little country.

He's also been out on the road supporting Usher and Chris Brown, showing up on Hulu's Reasonable Doubt, and he's set to headline a new R&B cruise next fall. Thirty years in, the man is still finding his way onto your evening playlist. Catch "Yes" and the rest of the grown and sexy rotation live at redcuprnb.com.
