Jay-Z Brings Blue Ivy, John Legend, DJ Khaled and Scarface to SoFi

Jay-Z pulled into Los Angeles Friday night for the first of two sold-out shows at SoFi Stadium, the last stop on his JAY-Z30 run marking three decades since Reasonable Doubt. New York, London and Paris already got their turn. L.A. got a set that leaned on the catalog and kept the guest list tight, and that restraint worked in his favor.

The sweetest moment belonged to the family. Blue Ivy, now 14, sat down at the piano and played under "The Story of O.J." and "Dead Presidents," the same kind of quiet showcase she gave him at Yankee Stadium back in July. Then he gave the crowd a little something for us down here: Scarface walked out for "This Can't Be Life" and the Geto Boys classic "Mind Playing Tricks on Me." Hearing Fifth Ward's own carry a stadium in Inglewood hits different when you're from where we're from. Jay also tipped his hat to Nipsey Hussle, folding pieces of "Hussle & Motivate" and "Last Time That I Checc'd" into his own records.

He closed the night with "God Did," DJ Khaled at his side and John Legend handling the hook, and that's the part we keep replaying. Legend's voice is what turns that record into a hymn, and live, it landed like one. Night two is tonight. Ours is too: tune in and ride with us live at redcuprnb.com
